Why India? Yes, a relative few people surf here, a lot of the coast has been explored, and it isn't totally new as a surf destination. However, few if any other places in the warm and safe category that also get surf are untapped like India. You can still surf where no one has before...or at least feel like you're the first. Vast stretches of the coast haven't been looked at by a surfer's eye. Even more have been explored by a few but not given the time it takes to get a place figured out. Good waves happen here, and getting alone for a surf is easy.

Vizag

Vizag or Vishakhaputnam on the east coast is India's most neglected surf destination.  It doesn't have the tourism infrastructure you see in Kovalam or Varkala or the established surf scene you'll find around Pondi.  What it does have is up to 10 legitimate right point breaks within an hours drive and more beyond.  They don't all work on every swell, but some of them will.  There's a mellow local surf crew that pretty much stays at one spot. Even at waist high, it is common to get 100 meter rides.  It's an easy wave (ideal for beginners / intermediates), but is also quality and fun for surfers of higher ability.  Avoiding a crowd is a non-issue.

Vizag does have a few upper-end hotels in the $50 to $100 per night range.  You can also stay at cheaper places not so close to the waves.  You won't find an abundance of $10 per night yet clean and nice hotels near a wave like you'll find at Kovalam or Varkala.  We are working on places to accommodate our guests.
